 I am Tessler Stromberg, owner of Five Element Acupuncture.

Practicing in Takoma Park since 2002, I can safely call Takoma my home and happy place. One day in 1995, I wandered into an acupuncture office because of an interest in eastern healing traditions. Something changed after that treatment. I couldn’t believe how well I felt. It was as if I turned a corner and bumped into myself. So intrigued, I decided to change careers. 

I later attended the graduate program at The Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Columbia MD, where I received a Master’s Degree in the study of Acupuncture in 2002. I served as lead clinical supervisor for 7 years at Tai Sophia Institute and Maryland University of Integrative Health, where I also taught classes in the theory of acupuncture. I supervised acupuncture at Baltimore City Detention Center, Samaritan Inn Rehabilitation Program, and The Women’s Collective, treating women with HIV in Washington DC.

Body, Mind, Spirit

With an emphasis on Five Element Acupuncture, my practice concentrates on healing through the treatment of the individuality of the patient, through the understanding of Nature, and through treating the patient on Body, Mind, and Spirit levels. Various conditions can be treated with acupuncture with results that often surprise patients. The difference between Eastern and Western medicine is the qualitative approach of eastern medicine, the treatment of the whole rather than “parts”. We look to the dynamic interplay of all the organs of the body. We look at the mind/emotions of the patient as well as how they “be” in the world, if they are thriving to their utmost potential. In Western terms, we look to create homeostasis. The other difference: we treat Qi, (Chi) the life force that exists in all living things.

Profound Changes

During the course of your treatment, more time is spent with you. Much attention is paid to insertion of the needles, feeling the qi, diagnosing, and choosing the correct meridians/points to treat. Most clients report, as I did way back, that their treatments have resulted in profound changes in their health and well being. Each person, although unique, shares Nature’s ability to heal as we are reflections of Nature. Each season or ‘element’ lives in us. As an agrarian society, the Chinese innately knew this and created a profound, intricate, alive form of medicine that survives today after thousands of years of study and practice.
